The English language textbook for future automotive engineers: a case of assessment and self-assessment

Introduction. Over decades, the profession-oriented foreign language textbook has been in focus of researchers’ attention. In this regard, we carried out research to evaluate effectiveness implementation a previously elaborated concept textbook, which was based on competency approach, taking example author’s textbooks and using procedures assessment self-assessment. Materials methods. Instructors, pre-service teachers 1st-4th year engineering students Togliatti State University (the Russian Federation) participated testing pilot versions English textbooks. For obtaining empirical data, adopted methods interviews an anonymous Likert scale survey. The data obtained from procedure were then processed analysis interview recordings texts peer-reviews as well method descriptive statistics. A self-assessment materials also realization textbook. Research results. Results survey indicate success textbook: 92 % 56 questionnaires contained only positive responses. At same time, shows that content meets students’ expectations (96 %), correlates with their training (98 %) level proficiency (92 %). 94 respondents would like recommend for mastering professional communication.
